How to kill it during your engagement session

A blog by

Getting engaged and planning a wedding is such an exciting time! Having your engagement photos taken is an awesome part of the process, and should be planned and envisioned with care just like the wedding day. Your engagement photos should not just be photos to announce your engagement or be sent out on save the dates, they should be photos you fall in love with. Photos you want hanging in your home.

So what should planning this session look like? The simple answer is it should look like you. There’s nothing wrong with loving a trend that’s going around and wanting to recreate it, but put your own spin on it! If you’re a more chill, laid back couple, go to locations that represent that and make you feel comfortable. If you like getting dressed up and appreciate a good cocktail, head to a spot with all the classy vibes. Get a coffee in your favorite local cafe, go to where you had your first date, grab an ice cream cone, whatever has meaning to you and would make you two feel the most in your element!

For those new here, I’m Logan, a Pittsburgh wedding and portrait photographer and videographer. I specialize in the documentary style, focusing on the real, fun, candid, and in-between moments. For both photography and videography, my style can be described as more neutral and cool in tones, and fun and authentic in the vibes!

Alex and Matthew may have been a little nervous heading into their engagement session, but those nerves soon dissipated once we started shooting. They soon immersed themselves into the session and just enjoyed each other, which is always my biggest piece of advice. View your session as a way to spend some time together, have a little date night, and just enjoy each other’s company. Our lives and schedules can be so hectic, so your engagement photos can be the perfect time to relax (yes, I promise your session will not be stressful) and enjoy some 1-on-1 time together (1-on-1 plus me, of course).

Ready for YOUR session?

Reach out today! We’ll brainstorm together on vibes, locations, outfits and more! Once booked, you’ll also receive a brief questionnaire for me to get to know you both better as a couple! And keep in mind: there are no rules! Every couple is unique, which means no matter what direction you take, your photos will be unique too! Enjoy the process, and prioritize each other. Do these things, and you can’t go wrong!
